If your young martial artist has already started asking, “When do I get to compete again?” — we have good news. The NEWBREED Jiu Jitsu Federation has published its fall 2026 schedule, and it includes five new Florida tournament stops stretching from the Panhandle all the way down to Miami.
We've added every one of them to our Upcoming Events page, so here's a quick tour of what just landed on the calendar — and how to think about which event might be right for your child.
The Five New Dates
- September 26 — NEWBREED Pensacola Fall Championship (Pensacola). A rare hometown option for Panhandle families.
- October 3 — NEWBREED Mid Florida Championship (Port St. Lucie). A Treasure Coast stop at the Mid Florida Event Center.
- October 24 — NEWBREED Jacksonville Fall Championship (Jacksonville). North Florida's turn, the same day as NEWBREED's Destin event across the state.
- November 7 — NEWBREED Florida Crystal Cup (Coral Springs). One of the federation's signature Florida events.
- December 19 — NEWBREED Miami Tropical Winter Open (Miami). A brand-new way to close out the competition year.
NEWBREED has been running tournaments in the Southeast since 2012, and their events are a favorite with families for a reason: Gi and No-Gi divisions for every age and experience level, well-organized kids and teen brackets, and a welcoming atmosphere for first-time competitors. A Fall That Was Already Stacked
These five join a Florida fall calendar that was already looking special.
For taekwondo families
The headliner is the 2026 North American Open in Daytona Beach, October 22–25 — a World Taekwondo G1-rated event run by USA Taekwondo, right here in Florida. Details are posted at usatkd.org. Closer to the grassroots, the Florida Tae Kwon Do Open comes to Palmetto on November 7, and the multi-style Southwest Florida Martial Arts Open lands in Punta Gorda on September 12.
For jiu-jitsu families
The Fort Lauderdale International Open from the IBJJF brings both Gi and No-Gi competition to the Broward County Convention Center on October 17 — see ibjjf.com for registration windows.
Which Event Is Right for Your Child?
If your child has never competed, a regional NEWBREED stop is a wonderful first experience: affordable entry, brackets matched by age, weight, and experience, and a single-day format that keeps the nerves manageable.
If they've done a few local tournaments and want a bigger stage, an IBJJF Open or a G1 taekwondo event makes a great goal to train toward — even attending one as a spectator can light a fire. Watching high-level athletes up close is often the moment a casual student decides to become a competitor.
And remember: the best tournament is the one your child feels excited about. Competition should stretch them, not overwhelm them.
Do the Gear Check Now, Not the Night Before
Kids grow fast — a gi that fit in spring may be too short by October, and sparring gear has a way of going missing over the summer. A quick fit-check now leaves plenty of time to replace what's outgrown.
